So excited to announce that the OpenBeta mobile app for android is available to download on the google play store! A huge thanks to our many volunteers who worked on this important part of Our project
We are still in beta testing mode looking for app feedback- provide any improvements via the play store or DM us!
Would you fix your own shoes with this DIY shoe repair kit?
Supposedly it is for when you wear away part of the rand with foot dragging, or poke a hole in the rubber on sharp rock.
@dare@kamu.social I was climbing a neat free standing pinnacle at my local crag and was about to reach the anchors when I looked up and saw a turkey vulture's head peering over the edge at me.
Luckily there wasn't a nest at the top or anything, it was genuinely curious about this crazy human climbing rocks, and flew away soon after
@jcmchammy@mountains.social your auto belay routes have fixed draws on them? That's a little peculiar
I guess anywhere else but a gym that's just called going in direct into a bolt.
Definitely weird in a gym context though haha
So this happened today.
I fell off a route, rested a bit, and made my way back up. The rope was still under tension, and as I moved up and over, my belay loop brushed past the draw and clipped into it
Sounded like someone else clipping a draw so I didn't think twice about it, until I became stuck on the wall
@ischris@universeodon.com those are the best problems. I dislike climbs whose grades are inflated because the holds get crappier.
I'm glad you gave it a test! My main belay carabiner is a Rhino and it's excellent at what it does, so I'm glad it has additional applications for TRS
@jcmchammy@mountains.social @thefifthseason@venera.social you guys are naming all the stuff I absolutely suck at
Slopers and pinches especially kick my butt on a regular basis.
proceeds to blame tendonitis as usual
@guslipkin@sopuli.xyz yeah the Ohmega is interesting... given how quickly it was introduced after the Ohm II was released.
It's almost like they explicitly marketed it as a different product even though it serves to replace the function of the Ohm (plus a couple added features – it's not just a belay resistor)

Vichy97 published a new alpha version of the OpenBeta app, with these changes!
Ok the new version is available for download! To know if you are on the right version, it's 1.0.0-alpha04. Some of the changes include
- map scale bar
- map compass
- "user location" button for map
- satellite layer for map
- "view on map" button for areas
- Lots of small map changes for things like labels and borders to make the map a bit cleaner
- ability to edit ticks
- ability to filter climbs by difficulty or type
- ability to zoom in on images
- fix timezones issues for ticks
- lots of tick ui improvements
- several crash fixes
And a ton small ui fixes and improvements. Too many to list here.

I'm currently writing the KaiOS app again, it is now possible to search for climbing areas nearby, the search is done in the map view, it is started with the enter key. I have deliberately refrained from starting a new search when the user moves the map, because in the KaiOS devices excessive external requests fill up the RAM and freeze the system.
Booty is booty!

Wondering if anyone has suggestions on climbing guides in Oahu, Hawaii.
Looking to take a trip there with the wife (sans kids!) and hoping to try a multi pitch or two on volcanic rock!
(Typical beta for this would be to hit up a local group on Facebook but bleeeeecchhh, only if I absolutely have to...)
@rasterweb@mastodon.social cool! Can you ask your daughter how she gets shots of people mid-route?
Most regular people get shots from the ground (lots of butt shots lol)
I've anchored at the top to take top-down shots. That's better, but the angle can rather extreme.
I'm excited to experiment with self lining to get mid-route shots without the need of a belayer.
@AlpineSavvy solid rope protection advice esp. applicable for top-rope soloing as well.
@rayko@mastodon.raykoworld.com there were a lot of defenders for the TruBlue in those video comments...! Namely in that the brake pads on the PD auto would wear out and thus presents a safety issue.
While true that the brake pads in the Perfect Descent would need regular replacing, I would imagine that the TruBlue folks would still advocate for regular servicing of their device, so either way you're looking at regular servicing.
Also really nice to see Bobby back on the channel!
