KaiOS app development update!

Development
  • Perry writes:

I'm currently writing the KaiOS app again, it is now possible to search for climbing areas nearby, the search is done in the map view, it is started with the enter key. I have deliberately refrained from starting a new search when the user moves the map, because in the KaiOS devices excessive external requests fill up the RAM and freeze the system.

Vichy97 published a new alpha version of the OpenBeta app, with these changes! Ok the new version is available for download! To know if you are on the right version, it's 1.0.0-alpha04. Some of the changes include map scale bar map compass "user location" button for map satellite layer for map "view on map" button for areas Lots of small map changes for things like labels and borders to make the map a bit cleaner ability to edit ticks ability to filter climbs by difficulty or type ability to zoom in on images fix timezones issues for ticks lots of tick ui improvements several crash fixes And a ton small ui fixes and improvements. Too many to list here. [image: 1734906780666-1000006567.png] [image: 1734906780723-1000006568.png]

Do you rock climb, and also use an Android device? Do you want to try an alpha to get some beta? (har har har) ... via the OpenBeta Discord... we're seeking Android users to test drive the upcoming alpha release of the OpenBeta mobile app: I'm planning on making an internal Alpha release this week. If you have an Android device and would like to be included in this, please DM me your email so I can opt you in. We need at least 20 alpha testers to be eligible for public release so I encourage everyone to test the Alpha build if they can! — Vichy79 If you're interested, simply DM Vichy79 on Discord, or reply here and I will pass on the message! In the meantime, here's a screenshot of what the image viewer looks like in-app. Pretty slick! [image: 1730741361200-screenshot_20241103-125507.png] You can also join our OpenBeta Discord here. P.S. Did you know we just did a volunteer spotlight on Vincent? Check it out!

Hi Viet, etc. I'm looking to get a local checkout of open-tacos working on my machine. I'm trying to verify that a change I made works, but to test it I need to log into an account on staging. I registered an account but the backend reports ths following: https://next-auth.js.org/errors#oauth_callback_error access_denied (Unauthorized) ... which usually means the callback url is not added to Auth0; that makes sense since my local url is localhost:3000. Just wanted to ask for guidance before continuing, should I set up a record in /etc/hosts so that I can pretend to be stg.openbeta.io? Let me know, thanks!

So a lot of our areas are well organized, but it really depends still on how the MP areas were originally done! I have noticed that particularly in Canada where MP is less used, a lot of the areas for bouldering are dozens of unsorted problems which also prevents me from making BETTER organizational methods when I add new climbs. Would be cool if similar to MP someone with admin privileges could go in and re-org areas so that they're more navigable!

Attempted to edit this route and was unable to, recieved a 500 error as below: [image: 1725226103356-1000004596.png] It's on phone so unsure if it works better on PC. I did edit this route on a regular computer a few weeks back and it saved ok.

Is it possible to disable the swipe navigation when looking at routes? I've been in the middle of editing a route on my phone when I swiped a little too hard and lost all my changes (nothing crazy lol)

I would like to suggest allowing the user to record attempts of a route in addition to ticks. This is really helpful for projecting. The cumulative stats should initially only include ticks probably. However, it would be nice to be able to toggle a view that includes attempts as well.

Hey @emilygraham1709 would it be ok if I wrote a few pieces on features of the forum, or how to get the most out of your forum usage, etc.? I'd post them in full, here and then I'd have an excerpt posted on the substack if that's good with you.
