It starts with a plan like a break in the clouds. We set out thinking on the lines, the foods, the sunrises and campfires, the saving up. And then you set to with the forty-second aspen tree planted that day, the twenty-third special with sauce on the side, the eighty-first stone laid, the fifteenth pair… https://climbingzine.com/patience-chris-schulte/

Armando Menocal is the original climbing advocate. He shaped the nascent climbing advocacy movement of the 1980s and 90s, and innumerable climbing areas are open today, and fixed anchors are not prohibited, thanks to his leadership. https://www.accessfund.org/latest-news/advocate-spotlight-armando-menocal

In another climbing forum, user Leslie H. warns of a proposed $5/day parking fee for the Wrinkled Rock Climbing Area, and points to the financial impact to climbers visiting the area. N.B. do not participate or brigade other communities, please keep the discussion confined here My local crag is managed by Conservation Halton, who charges about $12 CAD for a day pass (which includes parking). Since I live in a suburban area, and the conservation authority serves the entire Greater Toronto Area, I feel this is well worth the cost. This money doesn't go towards the local climbing community, so I encourage those I climb with to also get memberships with the Ontario Alliance of Climbers (~$20/year) That said, do you pay to climb at your local crag? How much do you pay, and would you stomach a price increase?

Four fingers grip an empty cup. “Go back to your country, terrorist!” a stranger spits, tossing his beer on me as his eyes survey my Middle Eastern features in disgust.  Budweiser drips down my cheeks and onto my American flag T-shirt as cars race the Indy 500 track in circles on a hot summer day… https://climbingzine.com/holding-on-by-letting-go-by-shara-zaia-volume-24-excerpt/
