Back from a trip to the Lake District.
Back from a trip to the Lake District. On the negative side, I didn't get three days climbing... On the super-positive side, I did get two days of Mountain Training Development Coach training with the ever-excellent John Kettle PLUS a day of climbing at Trowbarrow Quarry. As a bonus, also a nice stay at Lyndhurst Guest House in Kendal and a play at KendalWall on their long autobelays.#MountainTraining #Climbing #TradClimbing #Coaching #ClimbingIsMyPassion #Kendal #LakeDistrict #LimestoneClimbing
Well, it wasn't sport ALL day; Jeremy decided to "try" an E1 trad route in my absolute favourite style (/sarc).
Well, it wasn't sport ALL day; Jeremy decided to "try" an E1 trad route in my absolute favourite style (/sarc). Time to see if my occasional and minimal practice has supplied me with ANY jamming skills at all... For those who don't speak UK trad, 5c English Technical is maybe 6a sport - assuming you can jam! This felt ooooo 6c at least #Climbing #TradClimbing #LimestoneClimbing #WyeValleyClimbing #Wyndcliffe #OutdoorClimbing #TopRoping
Trad at Plas Y Brenin
I spent this last week in North Wales on a lead #climbing course at Plas Y Brenin. Although it was late in the year the course instructor managed to get us climbing outside every day. We explored many of the interesting crags available including the sea cliffs. It was a great course and Peter was a great guide and instructor. I’ve learned loads and am looking forwards to getting out next year exploring more of the amazing #tradclimbing places in North Wales.
So that was a good couple of days... Got my Foundation Coach done (thanks to Garland Mountaineering and some very patient students who hung around for me to make it to Exeter), then got to spend a chill evening with a friend (Mark), followed by a comfy...
So that was a good couple of days... Got my Foundation Coach done (thanks to Garland Mountaineering and some very patient students who hung around for me to make it to Exeter), then got to spend a chill evening with a friend (Mark), followed by a comfy sofa to sleep on and (better still) a trip to #Dewerstone today to send this rather fabulous VS, Leviathan, in a stunning setting.#climbing #TradClimbing #Trad #DevonClimbing
Another view from Wolf Crag #Northumberland on Wednesday afternoon.
Another view from Wolf Crag #Northumberland on Wednesday afternoon. The descent route at this end of the crag is down an enclosed gully that's capped by this boulder. We racked-up and left the rest of our gear at the top; seemed easier! It's a small crag, and this lichenous rock is indicative, but there are some nice routes, albeit rather short ones. #Climbing #TradClimbing #Photography
We were lucky with the Sunday afternoon weather at Kyloe Crag.
We were lucky with the Sunday afternoon weather at Kyloe Crag. Four leads, including three on-sights, one of them a VS... which for me is good! Seconded a couple more, including a repeat of an E1, and still thought it was nuts!! #Climbing #TradClimbing #Northumberland
A couple more from Peel Crag #Northumberland last night.
A couple more from Peel Crag #Northumberland last night. A chilly but fun evening of #Climbing and trying out a second-hand camera... a Sony ZV-E10 with a 20mm Viltrox f2.8 prime. Happy with it so far, and I think it's going to better than using my GoPro as a camera. #Photography #TradClimbing
The weather stayed (somewhat!!) like this!

East Woodburn
Added a couple of routes to my East Woodburn repertoire last night including a Hard Severe up Green Slab Arete... a tricky start, but reasonable protection and becomes easier. #Northumberland #TradClimbing #Climbing #Photography
Deception Crack, a classic 2* Hard Severe at Kyloe Out.
Deception Crack, a classic 2* Hard Severe at Kyloe Out. Great conditions last night, and breezy enough to keep the midge at bay until almost 9pm. For #Northumberland sandbag aficionados, let me recommend Fakir's Slab. VDiff?!! They must be mad!! Fun route, afterwards, but approach it as you would a poorly protected and slopey Severe. #Climbing #RockClimbing #TradClimbing
Very pleasant afternoon and evening at Crag Lough, with a brief jaunt up Sunset at Peel Crag on the way back to the car park...
Very pleasant afternoon and evening at Crag Lough, with a brief jaunt up Sunset at Peel Crag on the way back to the car park... it had to be done! And midge-free, surprisingly!! My first time leading Hadrian's Buttress too; a classic 3-star Severe towards the end of Crag Lough. Great route! 🧗 #Northumberland #Climbing #TradClimbing
