As a youngster I was addicted to hills/mountains/rock climbing.
As a youngster I was addicted to hills/mountains/rock climbing. I've only got 1 photo of me climbing from those days, we rarely took a camera. It was so hard getting to a crag that you climbed in rubbish condtions to avoid wasting a weekend. The shot is of me on P1 of Praying Mantis in Borrowdale on a damp grimy day, 1967ish, doing it wrongly of course. The mantra at the time was "the leader never falls" and you can see why! It's (usually) a bit safer these days. #Climbing #LakeDistrict

After having had a long pause because my knee hurt so badly, I was back on the wall yesterday.
After having had a long pause because my knee hurt so badly, I was back on the wall yesterday. I struggled a bit because I didn´t know how much the knee could take, and which kinds of movements were problematic, so I took it slow, attempting simpler routes with clearer beta, and also no routes where I´d risk a less-controlled fall from higher-up.Despite this, it was a great long session with a good friend, and has been TREMENDOUS fun.#boulder #bouldering #climbing #STEIL

This weekend tried ice climbing for the first time.
This weekend tried ice climbing for the first time. With small drytooling experience, soft-ish ice and slightly positive slope it was surprisingly easy. Once did 5 climbs with no breaks, and only stopped because of queueAlso tried different ice tools: my new Trango Raptor, Petzl Sum'tec and two variations of non striking tools. Non striking are physically easy to to use when ice is not flat, but are harder to trust. Raptors are holding best, but the striking motion is harder to master because of the blade angle. Sum'tecs are just the easiest for beginnersAnd this was an actual frozen waterfall!(more like a frozen shell around still flowing waterfall, and the ice in the middle was quite thin and not attached to the rock)#climbing #mountains #ice

So, once again I find myself lacking actual mountains for #MountainsWrapped 2024, but I think @bergmeister 's year's summary of the outdoors idea is great, so Imma go with it again with some crag pics from the year that have some meaning for me.

Sparser pickings for me this year as I haven't got much outdoor climbing in for various reasons; mostly the fabulous British summer, my fave climbing partner heartlessly pushing off to another country for a few months, and me doing a bunch of training courses and assessments. This year included finishing my RCI - which would have appeared in this post but for the minor problems of not having any pics, finishing it in the p**sing rain, and Sheepstor being about the least mountainous place I've climbed.
