  • Regrettably accepting that I will not be sincerely good at rock climbing (climb 5.12+) unless I legitimately lose 30 lbs.

@ahelwer I'm the same height as you and about a decade older, but lost quite a bit of weight for climbing and health purposes. There seems to be a lot of borderline or actual unhealthy stuff around weight loss in the climbing community though, so I tried to do it in as healthy way as possible. I tried to make it about lifestyle change and getting healthier, and have done it gradually over a couple of years. I'm hoping this will make it sustainable. So you can absolutely do it, but be careful of yourself and make it about positivity, good health and enjoyment.

@benjaminallocco @pmonks Oh it's a vert actually, should have said. Camera angle deceptive.

@pmonks @benjaminallocco OK this makes sense. Will try this. What doesn't come across though is how much I'm relying on the 2 finger crimp to pull me onto the wall. It's awkwardly placed.

@ives Yes another climber managed it like this.

Wow, great response, thanks everyone. I wonder whether it's worth starting a climbingbeta group? Not sure how one goes about this but I can check it out. Will certainly update with what if anything gets me the send.

Wonder if it's worth asking for #bouldering or #climbing #beta on Mastodon? How do I get my toe onto the chip below the sloper? The top hold is sloper on top, a flat crimp/undercling underneath. The chip is the same shape but angled to the right...

    Beta please?

  • Important information about the dos and don'ts on THE most important knot in #climbing and some myth busting.

@rayko What he uses is not the "stopper knot" I was taught. The one I use is a good deal more secure than a simple overhand or "granny knot". (Sorry Granny) I think it would hold better if you clipped into it by mistake.
