It’s that time of year again–the AAC has invited the editor of Accidents in North American Climbing, Pete Takeda, to hop on the pod to chat about emerging trends in climbing accidents. This year, we’re also delighted to have a conversation with Dr. Valerie Karr, a professor at UMASS who has stepped in to help us with a massive data analysis project. Valerie used grounded theory analysis to parse through 20 years of accidents data—picking out patterns in how human behavior contributes to accidents. We discuss some examples like risk normalization, the mentor trap, and attitudes around fixed gear. Dive into the podcast to hear about her findings and learn more about the case studies that stuck out to the editors this year. A double loop bowline on a bight is a good starting point for various types of anchors. Here's one application, the “fisheye”. Make a three-piece anchor with a 120 cm sling? Yep! Learn all about it here. Premium Article available https://www.alpinesavvy.com/blog/the-fish-eye-anchor

Not sure how active the rope solo scene is on fedi, but I figure I'd ask. There's been quite a bit of discussion over the years about various systems, but the modern consensus seems to be to use two progress capture devices on a single (or dual) fixed line, with one suspended higher than the other via use of a neck strap or chest harness. By far (at least in North America) the consensus seems to be to use the Petzl Microtraxion. The Edelrid Spoc seems to be a good alternative, is both lighter and cheaper, and is also mentioned occasionally in discussions about TRS. Brent Barghahn is seen in this photo in a double-Spoc setup: [image: 1733628906847-1000006397.jpg] Any potential problems I should be considering?

I have started writing a new KaiOS app. With the app you can search for climbing routes and then enter the routes you have made in a logbook. The data comes from https://openbeta.io, a freely available climbing route database with a very active community. A live version of the app -> https://pictick.strukturart.com #KaiOS #climbing
