  • This weekend had first trad climbing experience outside of mountaineering routes

The rock was technically easy to climb, but a bit scary. Positive slope means falling to the last anchor will hurt a lot

Turns out I didn't know some essential things about building anchors (like the correct way to clip into self-equalizing anchor). Also lack of practice since the spring made me work way slower than I used to

But thanks to the great mountaineer leading our group we learned a lot in a single day, even practised with 6-8 types of anchors

..at the very end I chipped away a corn kernel sized piece of fingernail while hammering out some pitons in the dark ^~^

A close cousin of the retraced figure 8, the retraced overhand knot has a few niche applications, like making retreat anchors. Learn about it here. Premium Article available https://www.alpinesavvy.com/blog/the-retraced-overhand-knot

Another extreeemely cool day today. Went with a friend, bouldered to our hearts content, actually topping a few routes at the top end of our current skill level and with lots of toying around. Then after we were pretty much powered out, met somebody who was quite fresh and seemed like nice company, so we continued another ... uh ... two hours. Including some hangboarding and so. Veeery long but satisfying and nice session #Bouldering #Boulder #BoulderDiary #climbing #sport

Another view from Wolf Crag #Northumberland on Wednesday afternoon. The descent route at this end of the crag is down an enclosed gully that's capped by this boulder. We racked-up and left the rest of our gear at the top; seemed easier! It's a small crag, and this lichenous rock is indicative, but there are some nice routes, albeit rather short ones. #Climbing #TradClimbing #Photography
