    A basic guideline for anchor building: narrow angles are good, wide angles are bad. While that’s generally true, it turns out in some cases, a very narrow angle is not so good for load sharing. During the 2009 fall Himalaya climbing season, I got an incredible invitation to join a climbing team for an attempt on Pumori, sponsored by Champion Hanesbrands. (The game of gossip telephone in the Khumbu region that season was about the underwear model climbing Pumori — I was neither an underwear model, nor did I climb Pumori. The route was far more technical than my skills appropriate for, and altitude sickness kept me no higher than this — the summit of Kala Patthar. But my word what a trip. I’m sure other pics from that trip will show up here as the alphabet goes on. I wish I still had my old glory days climbing pictures. I was so young, so fit, so strong. So scared. So so scared. I’ve learned so much about emotional regulation and fear and stress and performance … I can’t believe I did as much as I did as scared as I did in those climbing days. #meAtoZ #climbing #travel #adventure #nepal #himalaya

Each episode she talks to coaches and mentors that are always useful.In this episode she talks to Lynn Hill, a truly inspiring woman who was the first to free climb* The Nose on El Capitain in Yosemite, a feat that was thought impossible, and not repeated by anyone for over a decade. It has only seen a handful of ascents since.Even if you're not planning a big wall climbing career it's a great story, and it's criminal that Lynn Hill is not a household name, unlike some of the blokes who followed her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IE9_oAPRTsE*(free climbing means climbing without using aid devices, but with rope and fall protection, as opposed to free soloing where you have no fall protection because you're a dick).
