Belgian climber Anak Verhoeven released a video of her #climbing La Planta de Shiva in Spain. It's a 9b route, the hardest grade climbed by women so far. She's the fourth woman to climb 9b.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooE3iRuT1mY

Just test-drove the topo editor that @bohwaz@mamot.fr fixed up, and it's working great, nice work!! Scaling is a bit off; I had to scale up pretty much everything (lines, marks, text) by 200-300%, but that's due to images being so huge nowadays. Looking forward to updating my photos of The Crag Next Door with proper topos! [image: 1730914274412-dilligaf.png]

Important information about the dos and don'ts on THE most important knot in #climbing and some myth busting. And here I thought it was all tested and proven about the humble figure eight.I've never used that yosemite finish, and I don't think I'll ever will. The stopper knot in the tail is enough and it doesn't really bother me particularly.I actually do like tails but that a whole different conversation https://youtu.be/nUCR_W-xCqY?si=3-A-1FABJ_4LWmht

Hannah Morris Bouldering is a great #climbing channel on YouTube. What I like that the host is a normal person, rather than an Olympic level superstar or anything. Each episode she talks to coaches and mentors that are always useful. In this episode she talks to Lynn Hill, a truly inspiring woman who was the first to free climb* The Nose on El Capitain in Yosemite, a feat that was thought impossible, and not repeated by anyone for over a decade. It has only seen a handful of ascents since.Even if you're not planning a big wall climbing career it's a great story, and it's criminal that Lynn Hill is not a household name, unlike some of the blokes who followed her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IE9_oAPRTsE*(free climbing means climbing without using aid devices, but with rope and fall protection, as opposed to free soloing where you have no fall protection because you're a dick).

Beautiful documentary about Belgian #climber Klaas Willems, who keeps #climbing hard while battling #CysticFibrosis *and* #cancer. And as if that wasn't enough, he also developed tons of new routes in #ulassai on #sardinia .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4JXI1hq1gs&t=1s

Because of things, I have an opportunity to be in Gariwerd / the Grampians and possibly head to Dyurrite / Mt Arapiles for a few (weekdays) later this month. Nothing on my agenda, rocks on my mind.Anyone want to trust me with their life / go climb rocks on trad gear? Happy just cruising - been a minute, need to recalibrate the gear eyes. Or go bouldering (you have to bring the crash mats) or just hang out by a campfire and wander around. Probs from 23-26 September...#rockClimbing #Victoria

Looks like there's a new resoler in town for us Canucks. Based out of Hamilton, Ontario, turnaround time of 4 weeks! Any resole here usually goes to Mike Doody and his excellent team at Ontario Resoles. Nice to have some competition regardless. Anyone know if they do no-edge? Heh. https://www.instagram.com/reviveresoles/

An Eau Claire, Wisconsin, resident has died climbing Devil's Tower (also known as Bear's Lodge) in Wyoming.A stranded climbing partner was rescued."Over the 100 plus year climbing history at the Tower, there have only been seven climbing deaths. While climbing fatalities at Devils Tower are infrequent, it is still inherently dangerous."https://www.nps.gov/deto/learn/news/news-20240923.htm#outdoors #RockClimbing

I know a lot of climbers and Hick is certainly representing that group of people. But, it sure seems like fixed climbing anchors are a perfect example of "permanent installations,” exactly what's banned in wilderness. Why should climbers be exempt? Because they're my friends and have fun climbing?Explain to me why it's wrong to ban permanent installations in wilderness or why climbing is special.https://coloradosun.com/2024/09/23/senators-hickenlooper-climbing-anchors-wilderness/#Colorado #wilderness #climbing

#Rockclimbing stuff I learnt from the series "The climb":1. If you're older than 39 years old, climbing competition is not for you (the only older climber was eliminated at the first episode).2. You need to wear a helmet, unless you are Chris Sharma or Jason Momoa. In that case your large ego serves as a protection for your skull. Nice.

Does your gear have the "BlueSign approved" label on it? My local gear shop put out an article about what it actually means. https://www.mec.ca/en/article/bluesign-spotlight-at-mec
