#makeShitMonday, #climbing edition...@mbroome and I haven't been climbing as much this year, partly due to schedules, partly my shoulder recovery. But we got out to Pilot Mountain last Sunday with a bunch of friends, and that reminded me that I've been meaning to replace my various tied cords - prusiks and foot loop for emergency rope ascent, spare footloop that doubles as my chalkbag belt, and autoblock for rappel backup - since they're all well over a decade old by now. They all *look* fine, but cord is cheap and nylon degrades over time, so...He picked up some cord for us back in October, so we dug out the hot knife, set up a fan in the garage, and got to work. I had to go in for a respirator mask almost immediately - something about burning plastic gives me an instant headache - but we got them all cut to length and re-tied pretty quickly. Not quite the same diameters as the original cord, but I gave the autoblock a test drive on Thursday and it worked just fine! @cannibal #rockclimbing #DIY

Outdoor season opened yesterday at Mustavuori, Tampere (see my bright blue pants in the upper right corner). Climbed easy sport routes, most of them in a top rope. Heroically I did try to lead the very first route, but rock felt so different after long winter months indoors that my nerves gave up after four quickdraws. But it was a good try, all things considered. Today everything hurts, but who cares. #climbing #rockclimbing #kiipeily #deartrainingdiary

A new favourite in the area, Bottle Glass has got some nice unpolished moderates away from the crowds at the main wall. All you have to put up with is a floor covered in glass shards from the practices of local drunks, hence the name. #Rockclimbing stuff I learnt from the series "The climb":1. If you're older than 39 years old, climbing competition is not for you (the only older climber was eliminated at the first episode).2. You need to wear a helmet, unless you are Chris Sharma or Jason Momoa. In that case your large ego serves as a protection for your skull. Nice.

I finally got good beta on a semi sekrit climbing training wall just up the road from home today....time to start the journey to strong again. I miss being up high, sometimes even talking to eagles, so much. Yes, some of the planet's best climbing at Dyurrite / Mt Arapiles is only a long day trip away - it's just fuel budget not reachable at the minute.#climbing #rockClimbing

“Curt’s Craigs” named after a friend of ours. Great solid volcanic (andesite) rock. Pre-fire we had a 5.6 climbing route up the middle called Garden Tool in honor of the cleaning needed to establish the route. Now it is covered with fallen log debris and poison oak. The belay tree on the top isn’t looking so crash hot either. #RockClimbing
