That's a wrap on a busy training week in Eryri. One (1) day of good weather and 5 of wind and rain. I trained 4 days out of 6, with 2 rest days (enforced by the weather, but probably a good idea.)I seconded some grade 2 and 3 scrambles in the Glyderau as part of a course. It was my first time at this grade and made trickier due to weather conditions and greasy rock. (Routes completed: Idwal Buttress on Glyder Fawr, Chimney Crack on Tryfan Bach, Bastow Buttress Variant and North Tower on Tryfan, plus some grade 1 gullies in descent). Challenging but highly enjoyable. I also solo ran/hiked/scrambled the Snowdon Horseshoe route, my first time up Crib Goch. I'd wanted to do two more classic horseshoes (Cwm Bochlywd, Carneddau Southern Ridges), but strong winds and heavy rain looked like too much risk. So I swapped in a low level run around the Ogwen Valley to get some elevation in on rough mountain terrain, with a bit of grade 1 scrambling up False Gribin too. #TrailRunning #running #mountains #climbing #Wales #Cymru

Oblig summit shot. I would not have made it up (and back down) without both ice axes. All routes were a sheet of ice. #MtHood #climbing #mountains

This weekend tried ice climbing for the first time. With small drytooling experience, soft-ish ice and slightly positive slope it was surprisingly easy. Once did 5 climbs with no breaks, and only stopped because of queueAlso tried different ice tools: my new Trango Raptor, Petzl Sum'tec and two variations of non striking tools. Non striking are physically easy to to use when ice is not flat, but are harder to trust. Raptors are holding best, but the striking motion is harder to master because of the blade angle. Sum'tecs are just the easiest for beginnersAnd this was an actual frozen waterfall!(more like a frozen shell around still flowing waterfall, and the ice in the middle was quite thin and not attached to the rock)#climbing #mountains #ice

#FootpathFriday It's under there, I promise. CMD Arete, with Ben Nevis summit on the right. My son and brother-in-law descending part of the ridge - we'd done an overnight camp just before this point, and were just getting going again after a fairly muzzy awakening. There are times it's a bit of a struggle getting out of a warm sleeping bag, but we still had the summit to ourselves before anyone else turned up.We tobogganed down the other side to about 500m off Glen Nevis valley floor - possibly the easiest descent I've ever had off The Ben.#Mountains #Climbing #SomeRiskInvolved

Today, the weather was challenging with intermittent rain, but I still managed to climb three nice routes and take some photos.#italy #sicily #mountains #climbing #hiking #nature #beach

Near the start of the mighty, 4km-long Bernia Ridge, Costa Blanca. A fantastic day out, particularly when combined with a bivvy in the Forat (cave/tunnel) under the ridge the night before.#mountains #climbing #scrambling #SomeRiskInvolved
