General Climbing
  • Hannah Morris Bouldering is a great #climbing channel on YouTube. What I like that the host is a normal person, rather than an Olympic level superstar or anything. Each episode she talks to coaches and mentors that are always useful.

In this episode she talks to Lynn Hill, a truly inspiring woman who was the first to free climb* The Nose on El Capitain in Yosemite, a feat that was thought impossible, and not repeated by anyone for over a decade. It has only seen a handful of ascents since.

Even if you're not planning a big wall climbing career it's a great story, and it's criminal that Lynn Hill is not a household name, unlike some of the blokes who followed her.

*(free climbing means climbing without using aid devices, but with rope and fall protection, as opposed to free soloing where you have no fall protection because you're a dick).

On this episode of the Undercover Crusher series, we have Connie Shang on the podcast to talk about her recent send of Spyfiction, a 5.14c in Mt. Charleston, Nevada. We discuss her projecting process, how she’s leveled up over the years, how she got so strong without training, what counts as a crusher in today’s climbing world and especially for women’s climbing, and plateaus on the moonboard. She also talks about her unique perspective on climbing-work balance, that perhaps more of us should consider utilizing! Love to hear about hard climbing, but want to hear from someone who’s a little more relatable than the pros? The Undercover Crushers series is here for your inspiration! Dive in! Olympic athletes can’t afford a single foot slip in the Lead and Speed events, where a fall disqualifies you immediately. So they're very particular about which shoes they use. https://www.climbing.com/competition/olympics/11-climbing-shoes-paris-olympics/
